THE VALUE OF WALL ART FOR OUR WELL BEING

Thousands of people are now working from home, and whatever that space previously meant to its occupier, with the arrival of continuous zoom meetings one thing is for sure, it’s not that private anymore. What I’ve noticed on a personal level, is a stripping away of objects, as if the many parts that made up the room (or the occupier) needs to be made less ‘them’. The walls left empty, with no hint of the personality occupying the space. Although, in some cases the opposite is true, as I see the use of props like heavily stocked bookshelves, candles, fresh flowers.

THE HEALING POWER OF COLOUR

As there are many ways to grow a meditation practice, paintings can provide the same type of tranquillity we sometimes need to slow us down. Colour has been used in meditative practices for centuries. When we become familiar with colour, and we find the colours that resonate with us and make us feel good, finding the right piece of art is second … Continue reading

THE COLOUR OF MIST

New to the gallery this week is my latest oil painting ‘The Colour of Mist’. A painting that puts a soft focus on the horizon where land and sea meet.

In ‘The Colour of Mist’ I’m hoping to convey a real sense of calm, aided by the beautiful pale teal greens. This is a quiet painting – the early morning waxing moon can be seen moving towards the horizon as the sun rises.

NATIVE LIGHT

New into the gallery this week is my latest painting ‘Native Light’, featured below right. This painting was inspired by the small, white lighthouse perched on the end of the pier, down here on the South East coast in Kent.

Continuing with the dark green cooling water, this painting is a night time scene. The bright, pulsating light of the lighthouse intermittently flashing light across the water is fleeting.

COOLING GREENS AND BLUES

‘The Curved Crust of Us’ and ‘Soul’ (featured below) are available to buy online as giclée prints, printed on 100% cotton Hahnemühle paper with a matte finish. These vibrantly coloured fine art giclée prints offer something dramatic and yet extremely calming, as a pair or on their own. The cooling greens and blues illuminate the other colours around them. If art can … Continue reading

The Journey

The painting might be finished but the journey continues.

‘The Journey’ is my latest painting and new into the gallery this week.

This new piece forms the beginning of a new collection I started in June and includes ‘Changing Light’ and ‘Beyond the Horizon’. The mood I’m hoping to convey in this work is independence and courage. The colours I’ve chosen to use create the contrast needed to tell the story. The shadowy darkest blues and greens showcase the radiant, lighter tones and angular lines. The splashes of gold convey an optimism from the start of the journey right through to the end. The gold lays out the route home and portrays a commitment to reach the shore.

MOOD BOARD MONDAY

The colours in my mood board for this week are of the green side of grey, the blue side of black and a small splash of gold. The colours I’ve started to use in my recent paintings have evolved into quite dark tones. I’m really enjoying the depth and the space these tones create quite naturally. It feels easier to play with … Continue reading
